Karlovic: I feel good, as same as ten years ago Zagreb Indoors
For the second time in his career and the first time since Metz in 2008, Ivo Karlovic will be the top seed at the ATP event. Following the withdrawal of Marin Cilic, who was unable to defend his title at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors due to the right hand injury, Karlovic was awarded the top spot in the main draw. But not only that: it could happen that he will play against the same player he faced in the first round in Metz, if Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis defeats Croatian wild card Toni Androic in the opening round.
"Marcos was suffering back problems back then. He was the better player on court in Metz, but he experienced back problems serving in the second set and had to retire. I hope that, If we meet here, I will win the match in 'usual procedure'", Karlovic said.
During this month Karlovic will turn 36, but he is still ranked high (Nr. 27) in ATP singles rankigs. One month ago he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in Doha. Asking to reveal his secret he replied:
"What I eat is very important, I try to avoid fat completely. I am very focused to the fitness and I im in the same shape as before. I feel good, as same as ten years ago."
On of his goals is to surpass Goran Ivanisevic who hit most aces since 1990. Karlovic is now ranked second in that category.
"I count aces and I am also notified by other people who I work with how mayn I still need. Well, Goran is with 10.183 aces still far ahead, with more than 1000 aces advantage, but I still hope I will be able to break his record", said Karlovic, who will start new campaing at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors with 9092 aces hit during his career.
