Stakhovsky wins opener against 18-years old Coric
Borna Coric (pictured) was not happy with the way he served and not happy with the outcome as well: he lost by 6:2, 6:4 in the first round of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors against Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine.
"I did not serve well during the practice last few days and did not serve well today. I could not find the rhythm", 18-years-old Coric said after the match.
He held serve on four occasions only and converted two out of 12 break points.
"It's not the first time that I failed to take the chances. My opponent did," Croat added.
Start of the match was quite different as Coric had two break points in the second set and 0-30 leading 2:1. Stakhovsky recovered and started to play better, taking advantage of forehand errors from his opponent. Ukrainian won five games in a row to win the first set and then was twice break up in the second. Stakhovsky served for the match at 5:4, then saved another break point by great serve and a minute later won the match.
"I dropped the serve twice in the second set and it almost happened when I served for the match, so it was not the way I expected", Stakhovsky said.
Ukrainian won Zagreb title in 2008, after Frenchman's Michael Llodra late withdrawal. Stakhovsky lost in the last round of qualifying event and then jumped in as lucky loser.
