Garcia-Lopez and Seppi for Zagreb title
Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (pictured) and Italian Andreas Seppi will meet in the finals of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors. Garcia-Lopez defeated Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the semifinals by 6:4, 6:4 and Italian stormed past Spaniard Marcel Granollers by 7:6 (5), 6:1.
This will be seventh career final for Garcia-Lopez and the first one since he won in Casablanca last year.
"I was a bit nervous when I served for the match but that's normal, a lot was on a stake", Spaniard said after the match. He served at 5:4 and saved two break points before winning the match.
It was Baghdatis who started better, leading 2:0 in the first serve, but Garcia-Lopez responded immediately.
"After I broke back in the beginning of the first set i've found very good rhytm. From that moment on I was
very consistent, very solid. I am very happy to be in the final", Garcia-Lopez said.
Baghdatis lost serve on four occasions on Saturday and in both sets he suffered at 4:4, losing serve.
"I started the first set very well, was break up with 2:0 lead, played agressive. It went away from my hands. I have no regrets for the second set, he played well, was the better player today", Cypriot said.
Garcia-Lopez is 3-3 in finals and will try to win fourth career title on Sunday.
"Marcel (Granollers) is a good friend of mine and I would like to be part of Spanish final", he said before the start of the second semifinal. But it will be Seppi to play against and Garcia-Lopez is 0-4 against him.
Granollers was hot at the start of the semifinals, as he broke to gain 2:1 lead, but Seppi recovered in the very next game. Both held serve until the tie-break and Seppi prevailed after converting the second set point, forcin opponent's error.
Seppi started the second set in great fashion, building 4:0 lead and broke again for 6:1. It will be his seventh career final, first since Moscow in 2012.
"One of my goals for this season was to be in the final again and to win title again. One is achieved and another one might be on Sunday", Seppi said. "This was not an easy match. I was break down, it was tight first set and tight tie breaker. I served well in the tie breaker and played better tennis in the second set."
